“I remembered that the real world was wide, and that a varied field of hopes and fears, of sensations and excitements, awaited those who had the courage to go forth into it’s expanse, to seek real knowledge of life amidst it’s perils.”
-Jane Eyre
I began this piece with a different vision of something copper and with florals trailing across the front. I was going for more of a clean and polished design but sometimes plans change and this one drew me towards something darker. Maybe it’s been the preoccupation in my mind of menacing shadows and fear of failure, but something told me she needed to be grungy, edgy, a dash of femininity with grit like Jane Eyre when Mr. Rochester’s mad wife burns down the manor.
Smoky and almost singed there is also brightness with the glass bead gel in brushed champagne on the sides and the orangish bronze metallics. I used Rustoleum’s Copper Rose, Burnished Amber, and Brass. The sides have the Gothic Rhapsody decoupage paper. I added the Pretty in Peach transfer on the front and blended it in with chalk pastes for an aged patina effect. Sometimes we must face our shadows in order to see our true selves.
