“I sold flowers; I didn’t sell myself. Now you’ve made a lady of me, I’m not fit to sell anything else.”
-Eliza Doolittle
Resplendent and ethereal, this Bombay secretary desk underwent a significant transformation. I’m calling her “My Fair Lady,” because, like Eliza Doolittle, she went from country to refined. You would never know that the original finish was a chipped faux oak-colored veneer. It made her look bottom-heavy and chunky. This unique piece is for a client who has luxurious taste. She wanted feminine and silver accents. Most of the other decor in her home is quite modern so this will be a statement piece in the room. Over 10 ft tall, it was a challenge to photograph. One of the heaviest pieces I have worked on. Curves for days and old-world charm exude from her. The silver shines in the light like starlight. I found this desk for my client and customized it to complement the decor and style of her new home. I love coming up with designs for my clients that embody what they are looking for but cannot find anywhere else. Making their dreams come true is so fulfilling and knowing that each special piece will be treasured forever makes me happy.
The colors I used are Rustoleum’s Sea Mist, French Cream, Pearl Mist, and Imagine Silver. The front has Hokus Pokus decor weave called This Old World. The top has their Birds of Paradise transfer. The sides have the Up in the Air transfer. I added the WoodUbend Mouldings oval frame appliques. I painted them white and gilded a bit of silver around the edges of the oval frame. These designs were perfect for my whimsical and light-hearted theme. I blended in the decor weave using Phenomena Paints rolling reefs and medieval pearl colors to give it a lighter and cloud-like effect. The top has a mirrored back and 2 glass shelves. No longer a peasant, but a posh lady. If you are searching for a unique piece made just for you, contact me for more details to bring your dream to life.
